Bone broth is a nutrient-dense food, rich in collagen, vitamins, and minerals that support skin, hair, and nail health. More importantly, it plays a key role in gut and adrenal health. It strengthens the gut lining, aiding in leaky gut repair. Additionally, its nourishing properties can support adrenal function, making it beneficial for those dealing with chronic stress.
Ingredients:
1 chicken carcass (ideally organic)
1 carrot roughly chopped
1 celery stick roughly chopped
1 onion roughly chopped
1 tablespoon raw apple cider vinegar
A large handful of rosemary, thyme or oregano + pepper
Cold water
Method:
If using a slow cooker, add everything to the crockpot and fill it with water so your bones are almost fully covered. Cook on high for 2 hours and then turn down to low for 8 hours, or keep on low for 12-24 hours.
If cooking on the stove, add everything to a large pan, cover with water & cover with a lid. Bring to a gentle simmer & cook for 6 hours.
If using a pressure cooker, add everything to the bowl, and fill it with water 3/4 of the way up the sides. Seal and cook on high for 3 hours, then let it naturally decompress for 15 minutes.
Strain your broth and spoon off any easily removed fat, popping this into a cup to harden so you can either use it for cooking or throw it away. Let your broth cool, then refrigerate overnight for the remaining fat to harden. Remove the hardened fat the next day and portion up your broth to be used within 5 days if refrigerated or freeze for up to 3 months.
